Optimizing the Position of the Fetal through Prenatal Yoga in PregnantWomen in the Third Trimester with Buttocks Presentation in Continuity ofCare Midwifery Care in Yogyakarta
Main Article Content
Abstract
Buttock presentation in the third trimester is a fetal condition that may increase the
risk of childbirth complications if it does not change to cephalic presentation before
delivery. One non-pharmacological intervention to help optimize fetal position is
prenatal yoga, which is a physical exercise for pregnant women combining body
postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama), and relaxation to improve
maternal comfort and support fetal positioning. This study aimed to determine the
effectiveness of prenatal yoga in optimizing fetal position in third-trimester
pregnancy with breech presentation through Continuity of Care midwifery care.
The study used a qualitative case study design conducted at PMB Widawati
Rahayu Sleman, Yogyakarta for two weeks. The subject was a 30-year-old
pregnant woman, G3P1A1Ah1, with gestational age 34+1 weeks and breech
presentation. Data were collected through interviews, observation, physical
examination, maternal health records, and documentation. The intervention
provided was prenatal yoga for 30–45 minutes, consisting of pelvic tilt, cat-cow
pose, butterfly pose, child pose, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques. The
results showed that after regular prenatal yoga practice, fetal position changed from
breech presentation at 34+1 weeks to cephalic presentation at 37+1 weeks of
gestation, and the mother reported increased relaxation, improved comfort, and
reduced anxiety before delivery. Prenatal yoga was found to be effective in
optimizing fetal position and improving physical and psychological well-being in
third-trimester pregnancy
